Łabędzie i gęsi białoczelne.

Swans and greater white-fronted geese.

Below are some photos thata I took a month ago – when the spring was having it’s mark but the winter was still fighting back. The snow melted and the water was all over the meadows behind my house – how nice compared to the previous year spring that was awfully dry. During a walk, that I took on 6 March, I met a few swans and greater white-fronted geese. That was my first encounter with the geese.

Wiosna nad Krzną.

Spring over the Krzna river.

Dziś udało mi się odbyć krótki spacer nad Krzną Południową niedaleko Jaty. Śnieg szybko topnieje, a nad łąkami szaleją skowronki. Panie i panowie! Ogłaszam wiosnę!

Today I had a chance to go for a short walk over the South Krzna river near Jata preserve. The snow is melting fast and skylarks are flying all over the meadows. Ladies and gentlemen! It’s spring!

Wiosna!

Spring!

I spent last few days nearby Łuków and managed to find some time to observe nature. For example I recorded the film from my last entry. The weather wasn’t good – clouds, rain and cold… Yesterday was different – cold but sunny – it looked like a beautiful day was coming. I went to the marsh grounds where I met the cranes last time hoping that I’d meet them again. When I was walking there I stumbled upon a moose! This giant was standing about 15-20 meters from me. I was so shocked that before I managed to lift the DSLR to my eye it disappeared behind the trees and bushes – it was a little shame but I was very happy with that meeting after all.

Unfortunately the cranes were not there. I could hear them somewhere far away but none was there with me. After some time two of those birds flew above the swamp and disappeared over the forest. Beside of an eurasian jay I didn’t photograph any other bird. After and hour of pointless walking around I decided to get back home – unfortunately, most of such photo-trips don’t bring any result. Fruitful wildlife photo sessions are really rare.

Using the time I had left I decided to drive around nearby roads. At one moment I heard the scream of cranes. I searched for a minute and I managed to find them. They were very far away and it turned out that there were at least nine of them. Until now I saw four max.

After driving further I met a skylark near the road. I heard that this hard to spot bird is a harbinger of spring.

In the afternoon, when I decided to go to a shop for some food I managed to spot a northern lapwing (that’s why it’s good to have a camera with you all the time).

At about 4 p.m. it became really interesting. To give my eyes some rest after working with the computer for a long time I looked through a window on the meadows and spotted and flock of cranes. I wasn’t expecting them there – so close to human settlements. I threw everything away, grabbed my DSLR and a jacket and run into the meadows. Twelve birds were feeding nearby.

I think I came to close as the entire flock suddenly flew away. It was amazing!

I was observing them as they were flying in circles and then landed on a different meadow where even more cranes were feeding. Trying to approach them as carefully as possible I did a panoramic to squeeze all the birds in one photo to be able to count them later. There were over 60 birds!

Then they decided to fly away, but I don’t thing that it was because of me as I was quite far away. A swarm of those huge birds was looking awesome on the sky.

To dopiero początek wiosny.

It’s just a beginning of spring. I can’t wait what I’ll see next!
